PSTCompress
Safe, automatic PST file compaction and attachment compression
PSTCompress 4 Beta is now available for download! It has the following new features:
- Delete Attachments option with rules - This option will clear all attachments found and replace them with a link to the path of the original file and a message saying that the attachment was deleted.
- User defined rules - this option allow you to enter any valid VBA expression through the Enter Expression dialog to zip strip and delete attachments.
- Directory Macros – this option allows almost infinite control over the directory path to store a stripped e-mail attachment based on e-mail, PST file, and server attributes.
- Change stripped attachment link file paths
- Support for Windows Server 2008
- Better localization support - full control over what language to use for Outlook integration.
PSTCompress 3 is now released and available for download. In testing it has reduced PST files by up to 95%. PSTCompress 3 builds on PSTCompress and adds:
- Stripping attachments to external disk files by age and size
- Zipping attachments by age and size
- Deleting attachments by age
- HTML report format
- Additional CSV reports
- Better control of selecting mail items and attachments to process
- Better performance with large number of PST files
- Select pst files to process by size
- MS Task scheduler interface eliminates scheduling service
- Analyze mode allows you to see results without commiting changes to disk
Why
save space when disks are so cheap?
It's
not about the disk space. It's about service times, backup times and
contingency,
helpdesk questions, restore requests, PST corruption etc.
If
you are using Exchange/Outlook, you know personal folders (PST's) are a
nightmare.
Of
course you should try to avoid PST files. Question is how and when.
The PST nightmare:

files over 1 GB are more a rule than an exception.

in slower and even corrupted emails.
Personal Folders are well known but
not everybody knows
that every Personal Folder uses it's own private PST data store.
